ABOUDIA

Born in 1983 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Aboudia took on the mission to transform sadness into happiness through his unique style, Noguchi or Ivorian street art.

It’s his own sadness that the Ivorian artist put in his work. After he finished Fine Arts School as a valedictorian in the capital, Aboudia expected to continue to the Arts university. However, the director thought that the promising artist was not fit for his school and rejected his application, pure and simple. The young man had no other choice than to go to the streets having nowhere else to go. Homeless, Aboudia started working on his paintings and style directly inspired by his urban surroundings : “Kids using crayons, sand or stones to draw their most intimate dreams on the wall are elements that fascinated me and helped me build my own art.” says Aboudia.

His style recalls Basquiat, while mixing elements from his home country’s atrocities straight out of a Goya battlefield. The artist proposes multi-layered paintings mixing energetic characters directly inspired by the street people from Abidjan, and comic books and advertising fragments.
