ANDREW WRIGHT A FINALIST FOR THE OAC 2017 MID-CAREER ARTIST AWARD
PATRICK MIKHAIL GALLERY is pleased to announce ANDREW WRIGHT has been named a finalist for the 2017 Mid-Career Artist Award presented by the Ottawa Arts Council. The award recognizes excellence in artistic achievement as well as commitment and dedication to the Ottawa arts community.
Andrew Wright joins two other exceptional nominees from the Ottawa area: multidisciplinary visual artist MAURA DOYLE, and composer and musician JESSE STEWART.
Andrew Wright's work is described as multi-tiered inquiries into the nature of perception, photographic structures and technologies, and the ways we relate to a mediated and primarily visual world. He has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, with exhibitions in London, UK, Presentation House, Vancouver, Ulsan, Korea, Oakville Galleries, Photo Miami, ARCO Madrid, to name of few. Wright is the recipient of numerous grants and awards. Nominated six times for the Sobey Art Award he was a semi-finalist in 2007. In 2016 he was nominated for the Premier’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts. In 2011 he won the inaugural BMW Exhibition Award at Contact Photography Festival in Toronto.
The awards recipients for the Mid-Career Artist Award, and the RBC Emerging Artist Award, will be announced at the Arts Awards Presentation on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in the Arts Court Theatre. The recipients in each category will be awarded $5,000 and the finalists will each receive $1,000.
