We are pleased to announce PMG artist ANDREW WRIGHT will be contributing to Milan-based MOULD Magazine's second issue, curated by Joan Fontcuberta, a world-renowned conceptual photographer who will also be curating the upcoming Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal 2015. Wright is also attending the launch of MOULD #2, which will take place on May 15 at the international festival Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
MOULD is a semi-annual publication focused on contemporary culture. Each issue is directed by an international guest editor from a different cultural area. Though all issues have a strong multidisciplinary approach, each one is unique in design, structure and outlook. MOULD #2 Degree Zero will focus on the image. While philosophers cannot say what images are, artists are the ones to tell us what they’re made of and what constitutes them. The transition from chemical to digital photography, from silver salts to pixels, encouraged MOULD #2 to focus on its very nature, on its most basic elements. How can we define the degree zero of photography writing? The investigation carried out in this MOULD issue analyses some photo creations that, from the Minimalism strategy on, gather the most essential qualities of photo images (light and shadow, imprint, chemical reaction, dark room, optics). That is to say those generative, formalist and conceptual operations that ground the making of those images that format our visual culture nowadays.
For this year’s Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal, which will take place in September 2015, Joan Fontcuberta has proposed the theme The Post-Photographic Condition, which will explore the dramatic transformations the image has undergone due to the impact of the second digital revolution, in which the Internet and smartphones play a prominent role.
